Lakeside Primary School

Transition Events and Dates

During the summer term, we will host a series of events and activities designed to help your child's transition to primary school be as smooth as possible.  This begins with contact with, and visits to, your child's pre-school setting.  Mr Moss, our special educational needs coordinator, Miss Hinch, and the teaching staff will all have opportunities to visit our many different feeder-settings with a view to getting to know your child even better.  Beyond this, we have arranged the following transition events:

New parents' meeting

We will be hosting a new parents' meeting in the Main Hall on Tuesday 24th June 2025 at 6pm.  This will give us an opportunity to provide some more information about your child's first year at school and allow you to ask any questions that you may have.  We will really focus in on what school-readiness looks like and what you can do over the summer to help your child feel prepared.  There will be lots of information shared so we recommend arranging child-care if you can, but if you can't we understand and your child is welcome to attend.

Transition Session 1

On Friday 27th June, we will be hosting our first transition sessions throughout the day, breaking the cohort of 60 into three smaller groups of 20.  The session will take place in our amazing Young Learners' Garden and parents/carers are invited to stay and be a part of this transition session.  The first session will run from 9:10am-10:10am, the second from 11am-12pm and the third from 1:30pm-2:30pm.  Following these sessions, we will make initial decisions about which children are in which class.  We will contact you separately nearer the time to let you know which session your child is invited to attend.

Transition Session 2

On Friday 4th July, we will host our second session in which we will split the children in their provisional classes, and then split them again into two groups of 15 per class.  Group A in each class will attend 9:15am-10:15am and Group B will attend 10:45am-11:45am.  We will contact you separately at the beginning of that week to confirm which session your child is attending.  This session is designed to give the children the chance to spend time in their new classrooms, with their new classmates and their new adults.  This is a 'drop-and-go' session for parents as we look to build your child's confidence and independence at Lakeside.

1:1 Parent Meetings

If, after these sessions, you feel that you would like a 1:1 slot with your child's new teacher, we make ten-minute appointments available for you to sign up to during the week commencing Monday 6th July 2025.
