Supporting Your Y5 Child at Home

The most purposeful way of supporting your child at home would be to read with them as often as you can. This will mostly take the form of reading their school book with them, but does not have to be limited to this. Sharing a novel that you have a home is also a great way of developing that love of reading.

Homework - Spring term

Below, is a choice grid for this terms homework. The children are encouraged to choose one project for Spring 1, and a second project for Spring 2.

The children will present their project to their class throughout the final week of this term.

Spring 1 deadline - Monday 9th February 2026

Spring 2 deadline - Monday 23rd March 2026

Online Resources

Below are a list of websites and resources that might be useful in supporting your child at home. These could be accessed at anytime throughout the year but should be seen as additional homework.

Maths:

Get ready to cheer your child on, as Year 5 dive into the

Battle of the Bands!

By encouraging them to play at home, you’ll be helping them strengthen their times‑table skills, improve their accuracy and enjoy a lively, friendly competition with their year group and classmates.

Points can be collected each day between: 06:30 - 19:30

The competition will repeat weekly until 14th July 2026.

Optional Home Learning:

To support learning in Summer Term, we’ve shared consolidation tasks that bring together the key aims from the units children will be exploring in class. Completing these tasks at home will help build familiarity and confidence with the concepts and reinforce understanding, alongside the teaching and support children receive in school.

If you want to support your children with their arithmetic skills, dip into a little optional homework whenever it suits your routine. Small, regular moments of practice can gently build confidence and keep their number skills growing at a steady pace.

We’ve also included resources from Years 3 and 4 so children can revisit and recap prior knowledge.
