Lakeside Primary School

Supporting Your Y3 Child at Home

Children will be expected to read and practise their times tables each week. Each half term, a homework project will also be set linked to our theme learning, and children will be given the opportunity to share this with the class in the final week of each term.

Reading

It is the expectation that children are reading at least 3 times a week and regularly completing Accelerated Reader quizzes either at home or in school. In KS2, we are no longer using paper reading records.

More information is provided in our Accelerated Reader Parent Guide.

Project Homework

Each half term, children will bring home details of a homework project linked to our wider curriculum learning. We anticipate that Y3 children are supported by an adult  as they undertake homework tasks, but they should take ownership of their projects as they will be presenting these to the class during the final week of term.

Times Tables

In preparation for the Y4 times table checks, we encourage the use of Times Tables Rock Stars and Hit The Button. Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) is a fun way to develop fast recall of the times tables which are vital for understanding of much of the maths taught in later years. Visit https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student - children's login details are on their 'login bookmark' sent home at the start of the year.

Spelling

We complete daily spelling lessons in school, covering the Year 3 and 4 Statutory Spellings. We do not send home weekly spelling lists, but should you wish to practise spellings with your child this would be beneficial.

Thank you for you help with this.
