The Lakeside Primary School Science Curriculum
Subject Leaders - Miss H Griffin and Miss P Dhillon
At Lakeside Primary School, it is our intention to provide a high quality science education that recognises the importance of Science in every aspect of daily life. Our curriculum will enable children to become enquiry based learners, ask questions about the world around them and work scientifically to further their conceptual understanding and scientific knowledge. Children will be immersed in key scientific vocabulary, which develops their scientific knowledge and understanding. So much of science lends itself to outdoor learning and so we provide children with opportunities to experience this, through hands on experiences. We want the children to feel the ‘wow factor’ of science through immersing themselves and understanding how and why things work. Lakeside’s Science curriculum links directly to scientific knowledge, skills and understanding to ensure that learning is progressive and continuous.
The National Curriculum for Science aims to ensure that all pupils:
- develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
- develop an understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
- are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future
