The Lakeside Primary School 3Is for Art
The Lakeside Primary School Art Curriculum
Subject Leaders - Miss T Richards and Miss S Hughes
At Lakeside we intend for our children to be creative and critical artists. Children will have a love of art and will be enthused and curious about lessons. This will be because of the chances that they get to be expressive creators, makers, curators and critics who are given a range of opportunities to express themselves through art.
A priority is that children are able to articulate and recall learning. It is important that children can develop perspective and judgement by linking their previous learning, challenge their current learning by improving their skills, critiquing other artists’ work, discussing their choices and developing ideas.
Our art and design curriculum is informed by the National Curriculum and challenges the children to think critically and explore a range of artistic skills and knowledge progressively and frequently. Skills such as: painting, drawing, sculpting and printing will be taught across the year and revisited in different contexts and media so that there is progression across both the year group and the school. It is important for children’s learning to be relevant to them and this is enabled by a school wide thematic approach.
Teachers across the school will use regular critical analysis sessions to develop their understanding of art and to reflect on their own work. This will enable children to gain and deploy a rich and rounded cultural capital. They will also use key significant artists, artworks and experiences to bring their projects to life.
Lessons will make full use of resources within the school and will be focused on creativity and exploring each individual’s message.
